Contemporary Christian synth pop chemical chemical group Joy Electric is the inspiration of Orange County, CA, native Ronnie Martin, erstwhile of Rainbow Rider and Dance House Children (which also featured his comrade, Jason Martin, of Starflyer 59).

Originally conceived as a solo design for Martin, Joy Electric featured spirited pop songs with religious and capricious lyrics lay out to gratifying synthesiser melodies. The group debuted with 1994's Tonal pattern on Tooth & Nail Records, unitary of the prime minister main Christian record labels, and home to Christian indie stone bands Velour century and MxPx. Melody and 1995's Five Stars for Failure EP were recorded with samplers, synthesizers, and drum machines, simply on 1996's We Are the Music Makers Martin switched to victimisation alone parallel synths for all melodic line and percussion parts.

After the release of 1997's Old Wives Tales remix EP, Joy Electric added the band's handler and keyboardist, Jeff Cloud, as an official fellow member of the grouping. That class likewise byword the button of the band's most popular album yet, Automaton Rock. Soon after, the chemical group added some other member, Caleb Mannann, and stirred to the BEC record label. As growing interest from the secular euphony scene added to an already unassailable Christian following, Joy Electric continued gaining fans with 1998's The Land of Misfits EP and the following year's Children of the Lord EP and CHRISTIANsongs album. Along with their duties in Joy Electric, Cloud continued to run his Velvet Blue record label and advancement business, piece Martin founded his possess electronica label, the capably named Plastiq Musiq.

The following year, a ingathering of unexampled and one-time songs called The Art and Craft of Popular Music was released. But Martin wasn't done, no sir. In 2003 the prolific synth master issued the clickety pop, glitchy sweet of the Ticking Tock Treasury LP, followed a class later by the chillier traditionalist synth pop of the Friend of Mannequin EP and Howdy, Mannequin full-length. Martin also constitute sentence to spell Christian festivals and prepare Shepherd, an experimental guitar side offer. The fourth volume in the Legacy series, The Ministry of Archers, came out the next year, attended by an EP, Montgolfier and the Romantic Balloons. Both albums were produced at the fresh revamped Electric Joy Toy Company studio. The fifth and net Legacy album, The Otherly Opus, arrived in 2007.

Jake Gyllenhaal tops gay icons list

Jake Gyllenhaal has topped a poll of the Hot 100 gay icons.

The 27-year-old actor - who famously starred in a homosexual love scene with Heath Ledger in Brokeback Mountain - came first in the survey of 100,000 people on gay website AfterElton.com, for the second consecutive year.

The website said: "What accounts for Jake’s ongoing appeal to gay men? His doe-eyed, boy next door (yet somehow smouldering) looks certainly don’t hurt, but we suspect what really makes gay men go for him is that he doesn't have an issue going for us.

"Jake has done as much as any actor to show straight guys there isn’t a good reason to be afraid of gay guys or gay roles."

Jake beat Torchwood star John Barrowman and Brothers and Sister's actor Luke McFarlane to the top spot.

Meanwhile, on AfterEllen.com - the lesbian counterpart to AfterElton.com - 30 Rock comedienne Tina Fey came top of the Hot 100 gay women list.

Tina beat US talk show host Ellen DeGeneres, her girlfriend Portia de Rossi and Terminator 3: Rise of the Machines star Kristanna Loken to first place.

Chris Martin's knee injury delays Coldplay comeback

The mystery of why Coldplay have postponed their forthcoming world tour has finally been solved, and by Bizarre's Smart Gordon no less. Well, we did tell you on Tuesday that he was a super sleuth. Admirable suggestions such as "God is in a generous mood" and "they've realised that they're very, very boring" came in thick and fast from you lot, but it's the Sun man who has the inside scoop as to what's really behind the "production delays". Doesn't he always?

"The frontman has been left hobbling after twisting his knee awkwardly during practice sessions for the quartet's eagerly-awaited first gig in London on Monday." Smarto puts the injury down to Martin's apparent newfound love of trampolining, which is a bit weird to say the least, but also, because it's Chris Martin, totally believable. However, if Martin and co are hoping to have their pre-show nerves soothed by Smarto, they've got another thing coming.

"HMV is banking on the new album being the year's biggest seller. Their stock order is the largest they've placed in the chain's history." And that's not all: "EMI will certainly be hoping they set all sorts of records. They are relying on the album being a hit to raise some much-needed cash after their market share slumped to well below nine per cent in America." Wow, with trampoline injuries and the weight of the music industry's woes on their shoulders, Coldplay's live shows sound like a right laugh.

Punk is dead, long live punk! And then fly it to the Isle of Wight festival in a specially chartered helicopter! That, according to Kim Dawson of Kim Dawson's Playlist, is how the Sex Pistols are planning to make their entrance at the bash this weekend.

"The Pistols heard about the Rolling Stones chartering their own ferry to the festival and decided they too needed to travel in style," a source tells the Star's music columnist. That's nothing, apparently Iggy Pop is getting there by speedboat, though one can only hope the results of his performance aren't as gruesome as this little snippet from the Sun's Bizarre pages. The Stooges frontman tells Smart Gordon: "At an early 70s festival they cleared the crowd and some bikers had lashed a man to a tree and stuck an axe through his heart." It makes Rotten's summary of the Isle as "warm beer, old women and Johnny Rotten's haemorrhoids - yum yum", sound positively bucolic.

The Mirror's 3am team, like many others, have been keeping a close eye on what Lily Allen and her pink head have been up to in LA. It's not hard though, the singer has been blogging regularly about her time in the city, which mainly involves posting pictures of what she's been eating. Clemmie and Danielle have some dirt though: "We hear Lil, 22, had to shut down her impromptu party at a bungalow she is renting at the plush Chateau Marmont in LA because staff complained the noise was too loud." Call that juicy gossip?

Impressively, the 'Don't Stop' 7" actually plays on a normal turntable, although the sound quality is said to be of lower quality than lovers of vinyl will be used to.

Only 100 copies of the 7" (pictured below) will be available in the UK on June 30th and a video of the record being spun (and eaten) has appeared on YouTube here.

The Weinsteins Hear the Neon Lights Are Bright on Broadway

Bob and Harvey Go Legit: Having run out of hapless Hollywood executives to devour with soul-crushing fury, Bob and Harvey Weinstein have turned their bottomless rage to Broadway. (Truth be told, we're not giving them enough credit, as the Weinstein Company was a minority co-producer in both August: Osage County and Boeing-Boeing, two plays that enjoyed seven Tonys between them.) Now the Weinsteins will dig through the Miramax catalogue and kick off their run with Finding Neverland in 2010, followed by a stage version of Pink Floyd's The Wall, Shakespeare in Love, Chocolat, Cinema Paradiso, and Shall We Dance. Psst, Harvey, you forgot Don't Be a Menace to South Central While Drinking Your Juice in the Hood. [Variety]

Open-Mike Night for Carrey: Serious dramatic actor Jim Carrey has signed on to an untitled comedy project with Lisa Lampenelli at HBO. In the series, a serious woman unexpectedly inherits a comedy club and must play a motherly role to the resident comics. Since it's no longer 1997, we can only assume Carrey will play the serious woman. [Variety]

My One and Only Bacon: We have an update on My One and Only, George Hamilton's childhood adventure movie that no one under 60 could possibly care about! Guess who's joining the cast! It's — no, it's not Lawrence Welk. No, we're pretty sure Donna Reed is dead. Okay, fine — it's Kevin Bacon! [Variety]

MGM Buys a New Le Car: MGM has purchased a comedy spec from Wayne McClammy and Will Burke, both Jimmy Kimmel writers, McClammy having directed "I'm Fucking Matt Damon" and its Ben Affleck sequel. Their script is designed to "unspool as a found film made in the 1980s," about CIA agents who try to stop an "evil car" from blowing up the Lake Placid Olympics. [HR]

Universal Starts a Family: Universal has snatched up The Family Bond, an adventure spec by Jeff Lowell (John Tucker Must Die) about a "girl who goes on an adventure to rescue her mother, with the father she never knew she had, a Bond-like spy." Yes, this is exactly like Spy Kids. [HR]

History Repeating for Johnson: Have you just stopped caring, Universal? Dave H. Johnson sold Uni a comedy pitch, Repeat After Me, about a "couple who realize they are reliving their disastrous wedding day again and again." How about a movie about a studio that just keeps making Groundhog Day over and over again? [HR]

Roving Mars is a decent thrill ride even when it starts feeling like a commercial plug for NASA's failing space program.
